Setbacks


As I write this President Zelenskyy is doing everything in his power to keep Ukraine from being taken over by Russia. I am in no way a geopolitical expert but I have witnessed some compassionate leadership, problem solving, courage, and grit. He chooses to stay and fight for what he believes in. It's clear when he thought the cavalry was coming it didn't, so he adjusted the plan. Two steps forward, one step back but keep moving towards the goal.


Setbacks are a part of the journey. Knowing they can be temporary is the key to having the grit to get through the hard times. Bad days, tough times, don't last forever. These moments can help define or re-define your motivation and evaluate what is working and what isn’t. Having a clear vision can be a driving force and reminder of why someone is going through tough times rather than giving up. Midset was another character trait I noticed with President Zelenskyy. He continuously talked about how strong Ukrainians are and that they would win the war with their unbreakable spirit.


Growth is so powerful that sometimes people around you don't know how to adapt or where they will fit into your new reality which can add stress to your progress. Major changes are like death and rebirth. With that, some will go through the same stages of grief Elizabeth Kubler Ross talks about. There are 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. I know with my career change I have definitely gone in and out of these. I gain so much insight from @MelRobin If you have an Instagram account I recommend her. Here are some helpful tools to hopefully help get you through.

  • Mindset- Having the right attitude about who you are and where you are going

  • Grit- showing yourself your strength and having the courage to preserver

  • Vision- Drawing out hopes and desires to create a desirable future and having an intense focus on that vision
